About the Author
Zhala Sarmast was born and raised in Kabul, Afghanistan. Her diverse interests range from the sciences and philosophy to media, journalism, social activism, music, and sports.
Zhala is a member of Afghanistan’s National Women’s Cycling Team and has competed in national and international championships. Her cycling team has not only done well under Afghanistan’s National Olympic Committee, but the team has also been a symbol of courage and bravery. Zhala and her team were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2016. Zhala is also a member of the Afghanistan National Institute of Music’s Guitar Ensemble.
Zhala holds a Bachelor of Science (with Honours) from Yale-NUS College, majoring in Chemistry, and she currently works for KeyNote Women Speakers and Zawia Media.
