Anuradha Krishnan

About the Author

Anuradha Krishnan is a native of Rakkad, a small village in Moovattupuzha Kerala. She was born as a boy, named Akhil, however, from her younger days onwards she found herself to be the odd one out.

She often spent her days within the four walls of her home, fearing abuse and teasing. The depression was so intense that she even tried to kill herself.

She focused on her studies and completed a Bachelors in Dental Surgery at PMS Dental College Thiruvananthapuram. It was while studying she realised she was not an aberration. She started to learn more about transgender identity and gradually began to accept herself as a normal person.

In 2017 she founded Queerythm, a community-based organisation for LGBTIQ persons.

In her short life of 26 years she has travelled a journey towards self-realisation. From the identity of Akhil decided by others, her journey has been profound and clear and she now embraces herself and the identity of Anuradha.

Anuradha Krishnan is the co-author of the book #MyVoice - Stories of Transformation and Purpose by Women of Substance (Vol-II). Her chapter is "A Journey from Unacceptable to Proud."
